Sadly we have had to postpone some surgeries recently as patients had not returned from overseas travel with sufficient time allowed before their surgery dates to complete UK government quarantine and self-isolation requirements in advance of their preassessment and surgery.
If you have surgery planned with us over the summer and also have travel plans, please allow enough time before your surgery so that this does not happen to you. If your procedure is planned to take place under general anaesthetic or with sedation, you will need to plan for a preassessment appointment within the two weeks before your surgery date as well. This is to ensure that you are prepared properly for your anaesthetic and surgery and that any tests needed such as blood tests, COVID tests or ECG cardiac readings can be carried out in time. Please also be aware that post travel quarantine requirements can change at short notice and catch you out if you have planned very tight timelines around travel and surgery.
We hate postponing surgery and only do so if we really have to. We know how much your surgery means to you and how you plan your time around a planned surgery date and recovery BUT we must follow government regulations, Public Health England COVID-19 and travel advice and surgery safety precautions.
We share your frustration with the current travel restrictions and fully understand why you might wish or need to travel for business or family reasons or to enjoy a much needed summer break. But please help us to plan your surgery with you safely and in a way that will allow it to proceed without problems or stress for you.
